Scientific Name: Monstera deliciosa
-Care Recommendations By The Dude-
Best for These Animals: Frogs, tropical lizards, small to moderate-sized snakes.
Bio Dude Substrates: TerraFlora, TerraFauna, TerraFirma
Soil Depth: Moderate to deep; can climb and root up wood.
Lighting: Part shade to bright light; do not place directly under heat lamp.
Humidity & Misting: Prefers humidity between 50% and 60%, but can take higher. Root system can grow in water features.
Mature Plant Size & Root System: This fast growing bushy plant will form vines that will creep and climb wherever it can! If allowed to climb, the leaves will get larger and develop more "splits" (called fenestrations!) as they mature. Vigorous root system will burrow deep and/or form aerial roots to cling to surfaces in high humidity environments. Can reach up to 3ft tall and wide, occasionally larger, and it can grow up towards a light source and topple over to root along the ground, or in water.
Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: Between 65 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit; prefers between 70 and 80 degrees. Due to its eventual size, it is usually best placed at the back or along the sides of the terrarium.
Edibility & Side Effects if Ingested: Monstera are members of the family Araceae, so they contain low levels of oxalic acid and sharp calcium oxalate crystals known as raphides. Ingestion is not recommended and may cause oral irritation. However, reptiles and amphibians do not typically ingest it.
Pot Size & Packaging: A single 6" potted monstera plant is shipped in the pot, wrapped in paper.
