Aloe ‘Purple Haze’ is a striking hybrid succulent known for its dramatic color shifts and compact rosette form. It belongs to the Aloe genus and is prized by collectors for its ornamental foliage and vibrant seasonal tones.
This cultivar is a man-made hybrid, developed from various Aloe species native to southern and eastern Africa. Like most Aloes, its lineage traces back to arid regions where plants have adapted to intense sun and dry conditions.
Aloe ‘Purple Haze’ stands out for its dynamic coloration—its leaves shift from green to deep purples and reddish tones depending on sunlight and stress conditions. This “color-changing” ability, combined with its sculptural form and vivid flowers, makes it a standout piece in any succulent collection.
-
Prefers bright, indirect light to full sun. Strong sunlight enhances its signature purple and reddish hues, while low light may cause the plant to stay greener and more stretched.
Requires well-draining soil, ideally a cactus or succulent mix. Adding perlite or coarse sand improves drainage and prevents root rot.
Water thoroughly but infrequently. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Like most succulents, it is highly drought-tolerant and sensitive to overwatering.
Thrives in temperatures between 60–80°F (16–27°C). It prefers warm conditions and should be kept above 50°F (10°C) to avoid cold damage.
-
Best suited for USDA zones 9–11. In cooler climates, it should be grown indoors or protected from frost.
