Philodendron 'African Fantasy' is a hybrid between Philodendron goeldii and Philodendron selloum, resulting in a unique plant with variable leaf shapes. Each specimen may exhibit distinct foliage patterns, with some leaves resembling African tribal masks, which inspired its name. This hybrid is relatively new but has gained popularity for its distinctive appearance and ease of care.
As a non-climbing philodendron, 'African Fantasy' can grow into a substantial plant with large, deeply lobed leaves, making it suitable for spacious indoor areas.
We're really lucky to have this new hybrid in our collection this month.
Native to:
As a cultivated hybrid, 'African Fantasy' does not have a natural habitat. Its parent species are native to South America.
Water:
Maintain consistently moist soil, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid waterlogging, as it can lead to root rot. Reduce watering during cooler months when the plant's growth slows.
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can cause leaf burn, while insufficient light may result in leggy growth. Position near a window with filtered light for optimal growth.
Humidity:
Prefers moderate humidity levels. Regular misting or placing the plant near a humidifier can help maintain adequate moisture, especially during dry indoor conditions.
Temperature:
Thrives in average room temperatures between 18–24°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 13°C, as cold drafts can hinder growth.
