About this item
One of the hottest versions of the habanero is the Caribbean Red. 300000 – 475000 Scoville Units, enough to cause serious pain. Originating from the Yucutan Peninsula in Mexico, it is now commonly grown in the Caribbean and North America as well. This pepper variety is about twice as hot as a standard orange Habanero.And as such, these chilies are perfect for use in sweet, citrusy, and smoky salsas and hot sauces. Tropical salsas and hot sauces are a perfect fit. If you're into extreme eats, subbing-in Caribbean reds for common orange habaneros is possible in most any situation, just be prepared for the heat-bump! - The Caribbean Red Habañero is extremely hot. Start pepper seeds indoors in peat pots about 8 weeks before the last expected spring frost. Sow them 1/4" deep and keep the soil at 80-85 degrees F until germination; provide sunlight or a grow light for 12-16 hours a day.
- Keep the soil evenly moist and weeds under control; mulching the plants may help with this. If excess heat and sun cause the plants to wilt, provide shade.
